Introduction Voluntarily planting trees refers to afforestation tasks such as land preparation, seedling raising, tree planting, management and protection, or other afforestation-related work done by citizens on behalf of afforestation without any remuneration. In 2010, the Beijing Municipal Government took the lead in launching 18 new voluntary tree-planting forms of responsibility including planting trees, raising saplings and adopting green areas. College students as the country’s future hope and pillars, a responsibility to have the obligation to contribute to the national afforestation. However, since 1980, when Beijing proposed voluntary tree planting activities, the number of college students participating in the program has been relatively small with a single form and a small overall scale. The participation rate of university students in tree planting activities needs to be raised urgently.
