在美国,远程教育泛指借助计算机和网络技术把教学内容传递到相隔一定距离的个人或分散在不同地域的群体的活动,它包括“远程教育”、“网络培训“和“在线学习”。随着因特网在美国的迅速普及,美国成为了目前远程教育规模最大的国家。44%的高校向全社会提供各种远程教育,接受远程高等教育的学生约占全日制在校学生的32%,此外,还有21%的高校计划在今后3年内开展远程教育。美国远程教育开设的学历、学位课程达到4.9万门,基本覆盖了美国高等学校的所有学科和专业。目前,网络大学增到300多所,约有80所大学允许通过网络学习获得学位。科技创新和市场投资的加剧,使美国的远程教育产生了质的飞跃,凸现了许多鲜明的特点。
In the United States, distance education refers to the activities of using computer and Internet technology to deliver teaching content to individuals at different distances or to different geographical groups. It includes “distance education”, “web training” and “online learning”. With the rapid popularization of the Internet in the United States, the United States has become the country with the largest distance education at present. 44% of colleges and universities provide all kinds of distance education to the whole society. Students receiving distance higher education account for about 32% of full-time students. In addition, 21% of universities plan to conduct distance education in the next three years. Distance education in the United States offers diplomas and 49,000 degree programs, covering almost all disciplines and programs in American higher education institutions. At present, the number of online universities has risen to more than 300, and about 80 universities are allowed to earn their degrees through online learning. Technological innovation and increasing market investment have brought about a qualitative leap in distance education in the United States, highlighting many distinctive features.
