During the War of Resistance Against Japan, the concept of a “new Great Wall” was established in China. However, how to use images to convey and interpret this concept remains a problem. The new Great Wall China comic created by American cartoonists Reggie Manning and Fitzpatrick in 1937-1938 created a new image of the Great Wall of China entirely composed of soldiers. The comics of the two of them were soon introduced to China, giving new meaning to the “Great Wall” comic that is constantly being reproduced and copied from the West. The process of image production and dissemination shows that the visual image of China’s Great Wall has been largely established in the context of globalization.
