在以家庭为单位构成的村落中,“门”所具有的出入开闭功能,即使家庭庭院与村落联成一体,又使每个家庭庭院在村落中具有元素的独立性。历经千百年形成的“三坊一照壁”、“四合五天井”白族民居院落出入口的“三滴水”门楼,既壮观秀美又坚实永固,既在物质层面上起到出入开闭、实用安全的作用;又在精神层面上起到彰显房主身份地位、经济实力的作用。闻名于世的“三坊一照壁”、“四合五天井”、“六合同春”等建筑样式就是明清时期成熟固定的白族建筑经典。“三滴水”门楼就是适应与“三坊一照壁”、“四合五天井”匹配的需求,为满足白族彰显身世和经济实力的精神需要而产生、发展、完善以至达到尽善尽美的程度的。
