Fifty normal rats weighing 180-250 gm wereselected for this experiment.Experimental he-molytic anemia was induced in some of the ratsby hypodermic acetyl phenylhydrazine (APH)injection.Hemotologic observations and cyto-chemical studies of the liver were made andcompared with the control group.Although thisanimal model could not represent all the symp-toms of Blood-deficiency as defined in tradi-tional Chinese medicine, all manifestations con-formed to the main characteristics of Blood-deficiency.The mechanism of the toxic action on theliver of APH and changes in various enzymeactivity are briefly discussed.
