就绘画发展而言,前贤的经典图式总是给后人以巨大影响,后人又总是继承先辈的优秀成果并加以创新,从而推动绘画史的发展。元画正是在五代、两宋绘画的基础上产生的,对宋画的接受是全方位的、立体的。其绘画风格的形成,也正是众多画家苦心孤诣努力的结果。他们师古人与师造化同步,折中李郭之法,大胆摒弃南宋刻薄之风,更是一脉相承地接受了董巨画风。这其中有着诸种原因:如独特的时代背景(外族入主中原)、艺术的自律性、南方特有的地理、人文环境等。
