The book “China and Japan in the Late Qing Dynasty - Courts, Political Reform and Revolution” co-authored by Kong Xiangji and Murata Xiong Erlang is a very important achievement in the field of modern history of East Asia. I think that the basis of history is the empirical study of historical phenomena. This book is a masterpiece of empirical research on the important historical phenomena in China at the end of Qing Dynasty based on the full exploration of such historical materials as Japan’s original archives. In modern times, China has very close relations with Japan. Therefore, the research on the modern history of China by using Japan’s diplomatic documents has also been carried out extensively. The book is characterized by its transcendence over individual studies. After more than 10 years of long-term joint research, excellent researchers in China and Japan conducted a survey of the relations between Japan and the phenomena of internal and external diplomacy during the late Qing Dynasty from the Reform Movement of188 in Japan to the Revolution of 1911 .
