A British manufacturer produces a non-destructive, computer-controlled, portable field stiffness measurement system that is considered the world’s first device to measure less than 50 meters. This continuous surface wave system from GDS Instruments of the United Kingdom uses Windows-based software running on a laptop computer to control an electromagnetic oscillator operating at a certain oscillation frequency. The oscillator produces a Rayleigh wave (surface wave) at a depth of approximately 1 wavelength parallel to the ground.
