现代医学研究表明,长期嗜好甜食的人,易患多种眼疾。常见的有以近视:甜食在消化、吸收和代谢过程中会产生大量的酸性物质与人体内的无机盐,特别是钙互相中和,造成血钙减少。缺钙则会使眼球壁弹性降低。眼轴伸长,为形成近视提供了条件。另外,甜食过量,血糖会升高,容易引起房水和晶状体渗透压改变。当房水渗透压低于晶状体渗透压时,房水就会进入晶状体,使晶状体变凸,影像模糊,引起近视。
