Germany and Japan all rely on importing spare parts from low-cost neighboring countries to ensure their international competitiveness. The U.S. car makers do not want to lose Mexico. To help Mexico’s manufacturing industry retain more jobs, the Trump administration is about to target North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with Canada, Mexico to renegotiate. In this regard, the U.S. auto industry has been closely watching. On July 19, the U.S. Trade Representative Office announced that the first round of negotiations will be held in Washington from August 16 to August 20.
