1971年初为抗议美、日两国拟将中国的钓鱼岛群岛随冲绳“归还”日本,中国留美学生发起了声势浩大的保卫钓鱼岛运动。这场运动自1970年11月起历经酝酿、兴起、发展而走向高潮。尽管这场运动最终没能完成其既定的目标,但“保钓运动”的参加者们由保卫钓鱼岛而开始思考如何维护中国的领土与主权完整,由捍卫国家主权而开始认识祖国,并致力于促进国家统一的活动,这场运动对一代人的政治观和世界观的塑造产生了深远的影响。
