The “Golden Claw” is an experimental program of interception, aiming and tracking for the space high-energy laser system. Its preliminary design and experimental prototype are ready for further study. To this end, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) expects to select one of Lockheed’s missiles and space companies or Rockwell International Space Systems Corporation as lead contractor for the “Golden Claw” program in October. The “Golden Claw” is the second Space Experiment program run by the Air Force after the “Space Infrared Experiment” program, which expects to conduct multiple batches of experiments on a space shuttle in the mid-to-late 1980s. “Golden Claw” plan with the Alpha Project (space-based high-energy chemical lasers) and large-scale optical verification
