Lao Tzu and Wordsworth tried to restore human instinct at the historical stage of the process of human civilization from supreme “reason” or from overriding “science,” and invariably regarded it as the best life in life And the highest personality ideal. Although they are connected with different cultural backgrounds and nationalistic ways of thinking, they have made the same idealistic choices in different time and space under the general suspicion of the existing value system, with a strong sense of rebellion and exploration. Behind this seemingly absurd and retrogressive view is in essence a neglected conception of the prospect of mankind’s exasperation. The return to such a sense of recuperation and spiritual homeland and the established affinity between man and nature thus reflected are even more salvation for those humans facing a “civilized predicament” today
