In the past, heavy metal ions in wastewater were removed or concentrated by metal-protein affinity chromatography (MAMC), limiting the transferrin to metal transfer proteins. This article describes the extension of this technique to the application of various enzymes such as carbonic anhydrase and carboxypeptidase A with different metal affinity properties. Preliminary results show that this technique makes it possible to selectively remove and separate from the aqueous solution the last of the first row of various metal ions delivered. The results indicate that the MAMC method can be applied to solve the problem of cleaning a wide range of aqueous solutions containing heavy metal ions by means of a suitable selection matrix, ie protein or enzyme.
