In the 17th century, during its colonization of the West Indian colony, Britain finally selected sugarcane as the main crop in the area. The increase in sucrose production in British West Indies led to a drop in the price of sugar and the gradual transformation of sucrose from rare and luxury goods to necessities. Due to the increasing demand for sucrose, the British West Indian sugar economy is gradually developing and prosperous. The economic prosperity of the British West Indian sugar industry is closely linked with the emergence of black slavery and has greatly protected the domestic sugar market in Britain. In addition, the huge profits brought by the British West Indian sugar economy also contributed to the development of the financial industry, the refined sugar industry, the shipping industry and the shipbuilding industry in the UK, and thus to some extent, assisted the occurrence of the British Industrial Revolution and the unproductive Class growth. British West Indian sugar economy has a crucial impact on the development of modern Britain and the entire world.
