Thirty-two teams from across the globe make up the field for the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals in Germany in June. Six continents are represented and six past winners will take part, including host Germany, who heads the 14-strong European contingent, and tittle-holder Brazil who leads the South American challenge.

Mascots 吉祥物
The World Cup 2006 official mascots were unveiled in a ceremony in Leipzig, Germany on November 13, and they are Goleo VI, a human-size lion puppet and Pille, a talking soccer ball that possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of the game. Goleo VI and Pille are scheduled to have their own TV series and will appear as World Cup ambassadors in the run-up to the finals. The mascots are FIFA’s first-ever “living” characters, which can talk, dance, play music and make people laugh. Goleo VI has set himself one overriding task and has made it his sole priority: He wants the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany to be one huge, joyful and unforgettable party, spending his time as the “King of Parties” celebrating, singing and dancing with fans from all over the world for four whole weeks. Goleo VI’s constant companion, Pille the talking football, is always at his side.

The winning design by Berlin design agency “We Do Communication” features a football made up of stars glittering in a night sky. “We liked both the idea and the execution. Stars taking the shape of a football is a new, strongly symbolic idea, and the poster struck an emotional chord with me. In my opinion, football is all about emotion and passion. The fans have made the right choice,” said 2006 FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee President Franz Beckenbauer.

Logo 赛徽
Germany unveiled the 2006 World Cup logo depicting three laughing faces in yellow, blue and green forming the symbol “006” and inviting the world to a party for the next World Cup. The slogan in English translates as “friends invite the world”. According to World Cup Organizing Committee President Franz Beckenbauer, the logo should be referred to as “the celebrating faces of football” and aims to convey the message that Germany will be a welcoming and friendly host.
德国已经正式公布了2006年世界杯的赛徽。赛徽的图案是三张分别为黄、蓝、绿色的笑脸组成“006”字样,表示2006年德国世界杯欢迎八方来客。此次世界杯口号的英语意思是“全世界到朋友处做客”。德国世界杯组委会主席弗朗茨·贝肯鲍尔声称,这个赛徽的含义是“为足球庆祝的笑脸”,此外,它还表达了德国将会是充满热情和友善的东道主这一讯息。
