Sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), a glycoprotein secreted by the liver, regulates bioactive free hormone levels by binding to circulating hormones. In recent years, both the epidemiological investigation and the analysis of single nucleotide polymorphisms using the Mendelian randomization principle showed that there was a negative correlation between the level of SHBG in vivo and the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) . More and more studies also found that SHBG not only negatively mediates the related risk factors of macroangiopathy, but also directly related to the incidence of macroangiopathy. In this paper, SHBG in recent years and the relationship between T2DM and macrovascular disease are reviewed.
