一个上世纪初从美国来华教学的年轻人,34岁病逝成都,却以他满怀的生活热情拍摄了很多中国历史、尤其是平民生活的珍贵影像。虽已过去近一个世纪,照片中人们似近而远的目光却穿透时光沧桑直射进观者心中,令人过目难忘;而且东西方两大不同文化体系在那爱德的意识中相遇,自然令他感触良多,虽然他对中国人、中国文化的一些认识未必全面但却是真情实感,这些影像连同他本人书信里的文字都经时间之手赋予了深长意味,我们摘编部分在此以及王瑞先生一篇文章与读者共享。
A young man from the United States who came to China for teaching at the beginning of the last century and died of illness at the age of 34 in Chengdu, has taken a lot of his life passion to film many Chinese history, especially precious images of civilian life. Although nearly a century has past, the eyes of people in the photograph are penetrating into the hearts of the spectators and revealing the unforgettable memories. And the two different cultural systems of East and West meet in that sense of charity, It made him feel a lot.
