Objective To understand the health condition of radiation workers in Laiwu and explore the effect of long-term low dose ionizing radiation on human peripheral blood lymphocytes. Methods The specimens were prepared by micro-whole blood culture method. Chromosome aberration rate and micronucleus rate of lymphocytes in 705 radioactive workers and 100 non-radioactive workers in Laiwu City were detected by routine chromosome analysis and conventional micronucleus analysis. Results The chromosome aberration rate and micronucleus rate of radiological workers were 0.53% and 1.27 ‰, respectively, which were significantly higher than those of the control group (P <0.01). Conclusion Long-term exposure to occupational low doses of external radiation has a certain radiation damage effect on the human body. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen radiation training knowledge training for radiological workers and raise awareness of prevention and protection measures.
