Preface The line of the Calgary Light Rail Transit (LRT) system extends through a bridge of approximately 230 m in total length over the Bow River. In order to fully satisfy the linear constraints on the clearance above the railway and a maximum gradient of 6.5%, the line can only be about 500 mm above the lower end of the structure. This means that ordinary concrete bridges can not be used for the required minimum span of 30 m.
