As a leader of China's education press and one of those first involved in online education in China, the Higher Education Press (HEP) has witnessed, participated in and practiced the development of China's online education. Every step taken in its online education layout has been synchronous with the development of domestic educational informatization. For example, firstly it made a large number of computers assisted instructional software which received good response in China, and then cooperated with the Ministry ofEducation in carrying out the New Century Network-Education Cumcula and National Excellent Open Courseware.
In recent years, new opportunities have been brought out for the development of online-education in China, transforming from digital resource construction to open education. In the process, the govemment has properly relaxed the limit of massive funds to enter market. A large number of entrepreneurship programs of intemet companies have provided new technological support for online education. Thus, the traditional educational publishing market transformation is facing a crossroad.
Confronted with such industry situation, HEP expands its in vocational education, adult education and teachers' education while retaining its original advantage programs of higher education. But the transformation period that requires much investment always goes with pains and difficulties. Taking the advantage of online education, it sells teaching material products in new forms and cumculum, and also provides the centralized educational solution. Teaching material focuses on new form of products with paper teaching material as core and combining digital resources. It has given full play of the characteristics such as complete system of paper teaching material, diversity and service personalized through the integrated design of paper teaching material products and digital resource; establish the organic connection between paper material products and digital resource and form a mutual matched and supported knowledge system to develop a capacity of teaching materials serving curriculum under the circumstance of information technology and support schools to carry out online education throgh network technique, novellayout design and content arrangement like two-dimension code.
Taking the advantages of online curriculum, HEP has achieved a great success in training teachers and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) in Chinese university: it has developed over 500 0nline cumculums and trained more than 0.3 million teachers. "Lcourse" is a resource sharing platform for higher education curriculum ofHEP which showcases "video open course of Chinese undergraduates" and "resources sharing class", operating, renewing, maintaining and managing curriculum resource. It has the functions of resource browsing, searching, recombination, evaluate, import and export curriculum packages, release, interactive participation and combination of teaching and learning. In addition to the stereoscopic layout for HEP online education, it's traditional publishing supplies more than 10 thousand kinds of books and 3 thousand of which are new books, which shows the content advantage of all subjects. In 2010, Experiencing Chinese for Primary and Secondary Schools Program formally was included into the Ministry Of Education Of Thailand Recommended Textbooks List, which is a historical breakthrough as well as a pioneering work and milestone of bringing Chinese culture and promoting Chinese language to the worldwide, marking the first large scale entrance into foreign mainstream education system of TEFL textbooks written by Chinese writers. By now, Experiencing Chinese for Primary and Secondary Schools Program has been sold more than 2 million volumes, and l,288 primary and secondary schools are using this textbook in Thailand.
After the Experiencing Chinese for primary and secondary schools program was settled in Thailand and listed into Ministry Of Education Of Thailand Recommended Textbooks List by the Ministry Of Education Of Thailand and became part of Thailand's national education system, HEP further deepened its cooperation with Thailand's education sectors and publishing houses. And the Chinese teaching resources for vocational education in Thailand developed by both parties will become the core resource of Chinese teaching in the vocational education in Thailand. Recently, HEP signed Agreement on Chinese Teaching Resources for Vocational Education in Thailand Cooperation Publication with Thailand's BOWT Press, cooperated with Thailand's Education Department and established the first "teaching demonstration centers for experiencing Chinese" global wide in Phuket Girls' Secondary School, the popular secondary school with 100 years history.
During the 66th Frankfurt Book Fair in 2014, HEP actively expanded the international markets, meeting with publishers, distributors and copyright representatives from over 10 countries and districts like the United States, UK, Germany, Poland, Egypt, Singapore and India, signed 50 agreement of copyright export and co-publishing, and reached more than 20 copyright import agreements and intentions. As for copyright import, it entered into collaboration with more than 10 publishing companies such as Springer, Taylor & Francis, John Wiley & Sons; as for copyright export, with traditional publication publisher like IEEE from the USA, Alpha from Britain, Oliver Evers from Germany, WSP from Singapore, SIPLIND from India and AK Entertainment from Korea, and some fresh and old customers of Electronic Publications Sales Platform such as CCC from the USA, Snapplify from South Africa, Young Digital Planet from Poland. The advantaged exports are technological textbooks and monograph in English, books in Arabic, and books of Chinese for foreigners in other languages which attracted the cooperation intention from foreign paper and electronic edition sales platform. As the development of the important publish program of HEP, global change and earth system science series of book has been listed in the national key book publishing plan of "the 12th Five-Year Plan", and has been published more than 20 kinds by now, among which many English edition are co-published with publishers like Springer and DeGruyter, and sold in global market.
The president of HEP said, HEP is actively exploring and practicing a suit of new model about intemational cooperation, local customization, innovative ideas and technology amalgamation around the world and contributing to carrying out the "going global" of intemational Chinese publicity and Chinese publication.
