红星苹果在内销外贸中都占有重要位置,但采前落果严重,着色较差,果肉松软易绵,不耐贮藏,严重影响其商品价值,不仅缩短国内市场的供应期,而且,历年在香港市场售价仅及国外同类商品的1/5~1/4.为了提高外销苹果质量,满足国内季产年销的要求,1974年中央有关部门组织了“提高外销苹果品种质量”的专题研究协作组.经过几年的调查和试验,已经初步解决了红星品种的上述问题.经试验处理的果实,色泽浓红,风味甜脆,肉硬耐贮,基本上达到了香港市场“蛇果”的标准.
