唐陵石刻、佛教造像多被作为唐代雕塑艺术的代表写进各种教科书式的论著中。这一评价有很大的缺陷,陵前雕刻尽管精美,毕竟是礼仪性的标志。佛教造像属宗教内容,作品多受局限。相比之下,墓葬出土的俑类数量众多、种类丰富,不仅是唐代的艺术精品,更能反映唐代雕塑的整体风貌。这些俑的组合、演变特征还涉及许多更为复杂深刻的社会问题。一唐人对俑的认识许多错误的论断影响着人们对唐代雕塑的认识。如在人物形象中以胖为美被认为是 Tangling stone carvings, statues and statues were mostly used as the representative of the sculpture of the Tang Dynasty into various textbook-style works.
