The micronucleus, sister chromatid exchange (SCE) and chromosomal aberrations in peripheral blood lymphocytes from 16 patients with gastric cancer and 16 normal healthy people were observed and compared. The results showed that the frequencies of micronuclei in healthy individuals and patients were 0.053% and 0.197%, respectively; the mean frequencies of SCE were 6.34±0.46 and 10.17±1.24; the chromosome aberration rates were 2.71% and 6.67%, respectively. Patients with gastric cancer were all higher than normal healthy people and there were significant differences. It indicates that the occurrence of gastric cancer is related to chromosomal instability and DNA repair ability.
