Complex base metal ores are an important source of gold in the Soviet Union. In polymetallic ore beneficiation, cyanide is used as an inhibitor of copper during the flotation separation after mixed flotation. Some of the gold in the ore is dissolved, which leads to a large loss of gold. In recent years, dissolved gold has been recovered with activated carbon. In this issue of World Mining, there are several articles published in public (see references) that feature articles on research trends in the Soviet Union and industrial practices that use activated carbon in slurries. How does the Homestake Mining Company, the largest producer of gold in the Western Hemisphere, use carbon to treat the South Dakota Gold Mine in the pulp?
