In recent years, the workers of the dulcimer have different opinions on the total tension of “401” dulcimer strings: some say 2000 kilos and some say 1000 kilos. In fact, this is an estimate. To get the exact data, I conducted a real test in March 1978. The method used is: Install a small bearing on each of the left and right mountain pass and each group of horse, hang one end of the string on the chord hook on the left. The strings are then passed through bearings on the left, mare and right mountain passes to reduce friction and a weight is applied to the other end of the string to achieve the desired pitch (corrected by the stroboscope). At this moment, the weight of the weight can be regarded as the tension of the string.
