The purpose of this study was to determine whether the high temperature response of tomato fruit and pollen viability is relevant and whether the pollen viability at high temperature can be used to screen plants that perform better under high temperature conditions. In the fall of 1984, the initial study was to identify potential genotypic differences from tomato germplasm with fruit set at short-term high temperature. Cultivars Givorski, Ace, Patio and Murrieta and four breeding selection lines -79VFT-37, 79N_ (45), 79N_4 and VF-6 were studied. Tomato plants were sown in a 20 cm diameter mortar fitted with commercial potting soil in greenhouse conditions of late summer and early autumn with a photoperiod of 14/10 hours (day / night) and a day / night temperature of 25/18 ° C.
