Objective: To investigate the role of biochemical markers and the changes of blood levels of IL-6 and hs-CRP in the occurrence and development of diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetic patients. Methods: The biochemical indexes of 40 patients with clinical diabetic nephropathy (CDN) and 44 patients with early diabetic nephropathy (EDN) were determined by ELISA. IL-6 was measured by ELISA and the hs-CRP was measured by the immunostaining nephelometry. Nephropathy (SDM) patients and 52 normal subjects for comparison. Results: Serum levels of IL-6 and hs-CRP in CDN group and EDN group were significantly higher than those in control group and SDM group (P <0.01). Serum IL-6 level in SDM group was significantly higher than that in control group (P <0.05). Conclusion: Serum levels of IL-6 and hs-CRP can be used as a meaningful indicator of disease activity in patients with diabetic nephropathy.
