通过船上测试的方法 ,对我国矿区沉积物的强度进行了测试和分析 ,结果表明沉积物的剪切强度随深度加大而变大 ,不同站位的沉积物由于类型不同其剪切强度随深度的变化也不一样 ,有的甚至还有较大的差别。同时发现深海沉积物的剪切强度在某一深度有一较为明显的剧增台阶 ,且它与沉积物的半液态层的深度相对应 ,半液态层的剪切强度一般都在 1kPa以下。因此 ,集矿机设计的原则应是既要保障足够的牵引力 ,又要考虑沉积物的触变特性 ,以便使集矿机不致对深海沉积物产生太大的扰动。

The shear strength of semi-liquid layer is generally below 1 kPa. Therefore, the design principle of the collector should be to ensure adequate traction, but also to consider the thixotropic characteristics of sediment so that the collector will not cause too much disturbance to the sediment in the deep sea.
