Researchers at the Institute of Naval Technology of the Special City of Washington in the United States have developed a new bolometer for the determination of ultra-low temperatures based on faint radiant heat. The instrument consists of a niobium nitride thin film with only 10 atomic-layer thicknesses. It has a superconductivity that responds very rapidly to energy pulses in the order of a billionth of a second at cryogenic temperatures of 2 to 12K
