The recent development of electrothermal evaporation inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ETV-ICP-AES) and its application in the trace rare earth element detection are reviewed. A new fluorinated assistant electrothermal evaporation (FETV) -ICP-AES new technology with PTFE suspension as chemical modifier was introduced comprehensively from the aspects of principle, analytical performance, method and application.
