On June 19, 1925, under the leadership of Communists Deng Zhongxia, Chen Yannian and Su Zhaozheng, workers from Guangzhou and Hong Kong held a general strike to support the “May Fourth Movement of Shanghai and oppose imperialist struggles.” The strike first started with the work of seafarers, trams and printing workers in Hong Kong.
