The microwave heat radiated by iodine 125 plaque has been used to treat choroidal and ciliary body melanoma. Choosing heat as one of the adjunct therapies for radiation therapy is because long-term hypothermia can cause blood vessel damage within the tumor. Anand et al treated 24 choroidal hemangiomas with dispersive photocoagulation and repositioned the retina of 19 eyes.
