Much research on bone disease after gastrectomy suggests that the disease is a form of osteomalacia, but the cause is controversial. Most think that dietary intake of calcium and vitamin D, steatorrhea due to various indigestion or malabsorption and so on. The finding that the 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration is reduced supports vitamin D deficiency as one of the causative agents, but there is a lack of research on the regulation of calcium and vitamin D metabolism after gastrectomy. The authors investigated 171 patients who underwent partial gastrectomy at Glostrup Hospital from 3 to 14 years ago. After excluding 59 patients who had had two or more surgeries and 61 patients with new-born, alcoholic liver disease, diabetes or other illnesses and those who were lost, the remaining 34 patients were divided into Billroth
