Like other concepts in the humanities field, it is difficult for film criticism to regulate its connotation and denotation with simple scales. Compared with the words of the traditional commentators, the lack of identity, is regarded as “ordinary audience ” if the viewing language can be included in the film criticism, how to find the right position. This essay will explore the value of public film criticism by digging out the old writings of the first batch of film critics in China in the 1920s and 1930s and again explore the boundaries of film criticism from the perspective of the study of the history of film. First, the “declaration” and public comment As China’s first modern newspaper, Shanghai’s largest newspaper “declaration” (1872-1949) and Chinese film and film criticism between important
