OBJECTIVE To detect HBsAg and HBs-Ab in newborn students to understand the status of students carrying hepatitis B virus and non-response of hepatitis B vaccinees. Methods Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to determine the HBsAg and HBs-Ab levels in freshmen enrolled. Results The total number of medical examination was 1178, of which 170 were HBsAg positive, accounting for 14.43%. The negative number of HBs-Ab was 246, accounting for 20.88%. After the vaccination, 144 were still negative, accounting for 16.04%. Conclusions Investigating newborn HBsAg carriers and non-responders after vaccination with hepatitis B vaccine will help students and schools to take the necessary measures to minimize the spread of hepatitis B virus on campus and to non-responders to hepatitis B vaccination Make reasonable suggestions for students to understand their immune status so that further remedial action can be taken.
