This article chooses the writer’s semi-autobiographical “Enigma of Arrival” as a case, dividing the writer’s journey of arrival into two parts: abandoning his life experience in Trinidad; discarding literary experience in Trinidad and analyzing the writer’s arrival How hard it is to leave Trinidad after Britain to achieve its arrival in Britain. This article also found that after years of arduous struggle by Naipaul to become a writer of European metropolises, Britain’s ten-year life is full of “unwell and irremediable anxiety.” Combined with Heidegger’s existentialist view of death, this article argues that Naipaul’s sense of anxiety comes from the sense of death, and death tells Naipaul the existence of man as nothingness.
