Tess of the D ’Urbervilles is one of the most famous tragic novels in the history of British literature by Thomas Hardy, a famous British criticalist novelist. Published in 1891, the book was studied by different theories from different perspectives from the day it was released and enjoyed by readers and critics alike. From a feminist point of view, the anti-authoritarian point of view in this article is that Tess is doomed to be the victim of this society. First, the destruction of Tess represented the tragic fate of the bankrupt peasantry. As a result of the industrial revolution, a large number of capitalists were forced into the working class as a result of the advent of the machine age. It is precisely for this reason that Tess has become extremely poor. Second, Tess’s tragedy also reflects the story of how a kindhearted and pure maid was persecuted by prejudices of secular and unequal laws. The chastity of women is seen by patriarchal society as determining the fate and value of women s things. The lured woman is doomed to be the victim of this patriarchal society. From the perspective of translation and feminism, I try to explore the tragedy of Tess from the above two questions.
