一、引言中国近现代期刊史发展到三十年代前期,出现一个波澜,这就是当时许多文章所称的“杂志年”,办刊的热潮先从文学刊物开始扩展到社会科学和自然科学一些领域,最后进入大学。从1933年起,上海就有文章介绍这仿佛一夜之间突然从地底冒出来的一股“期刊热”,一直断断续续持续到1937年上半年,其中以1934—1935年的各报刊谈得最热烈,连鲁迅都写了文章。中华人民共和国成立以前,上海是旧中国的出版业中心,除掉商务印书馆、中华书局、开明书店、世界书局等这些大出版社的总管理处都设在上海以外,还拥有大量中小出版社;上海也是旧中国期刊出版业的主要中心。本文谈的是1937年8月上海淞沪抗战以前的时期,那时发行量最大的《生活》周刊(后来为《新生》周刊、《国民》周刊)、资格很老的《东方杂志》,以及全国最有影响的文艺杂志、教育杂志、科学杂志,都在上海出版。上海出版的杂志,其品种之多,影响之大,在全国都是首屈一指的。下面是1933年全国主要地区杂志出版数量的一个材料:
