Connective Tissue Growth Factor (CTGF) is a cytokine that has been found to play an important role in the fibrosis of various organs and tissues in recent years. CTGF mediates many functions of TGF-β1 in various fibrotic diseases. Almost all of TGF-β2 is expressed in all fibrosis tissue, but CTGF does not have TGF-β1 inhibition of cell proliferation and immunosuppression and other physiological functions and therefore be considered as TGF-β1 part of the downstream effector molecules. Because its function is more limited to affect the occurrence of fibrosis, its further study may find a new method for the effective prevention and treatment of hepatic fibrosis.
