明代福建建阳书坊均称书林,或简称“建邑书林”。建阳别称为“潭阳”,所以也有称为“潭阳书林”、“潭邑书林”或“闽建书林”。还有一种情况,是“潭阳××”,以地望在人名之前,也说明是建阳版刻,不过,这种情况还是不多见的。据张秀民先生考证,明代建阳书林有堂名刊刻书籍流传下来的有47家之多,主要都在建阳、建安书林只有数家。宋元两代建阳。建安书坊刻书业以刘姓为多,余姓稍次。而明代余姓12家,刘姓为10家,依次为杨、叶、郑、熊等诸姓。建阳余氏书业起源干宋代广西安抚史余同祖,宋元时极盛一时,明初稍衰,至万历时又兴盛起来。从中国出版史乃至世界范围的出版史情况来看,余氏自12世纪至17世纪几百年来家族承前
