In recent years, inflation in Western Europe has been highlighted. This is specifically reflected in the rising price. Between 1959 and 1963, sales in France rose 19%, Italy 16%, West Germany 11% and the Netherlands 10%, while sales in Belgium and Luxembourg rose 3.5% in only 1963. In terms of production costs, production costs in Italy increased by 28% from 1959 to 1963, with 21% in France, 20% in West Germany and 17% in the Netherlands. Among the six countries in the “common market” in Western Europe, France and Italy experienced more serious and prominent inflation. The worsening inflation has aroused the anxiety of the six-nation ruling bloc. On January 25 this year, a report published by the “Common Market” Executive Committee acknowledged that the inflation trend is an important policy issue facing the six countries in the “Common Market” this year.
