The Nordic country, which has long been known for its advanced environmental philosophy, has also imposed strict laws restricting the discharge of industrial waste heat to air, surface water or anywhere. Using this as an opportunity, these unutilized excess heat is instead converted into energy for consumers, so power plants play an important role in Denmark. In addition to integrating sustainability concepts into a waste incineration plant, Danish designers are working to make traditional power plants that used to be “hateful” even more aesthetically. Many waste incineration plants are no longer just waste disposal facilities, but also become iconic landmarks because of their novel and unique designs.
