It is important to promote the development of the bone marrow donation business, ensure the safety of healthy volunteer donors, and alleviate the suffering of the marrow, and return to normal life as soon as possible. This article prospectively studied and evaluated the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of unrelated bone marrow donors. Methods A total of 565 volunteers (329 males and 236 females) who were enrolled in one of the eight centers of the Japan Marrow Donor Program (JMDP) between 1999 and March 2000. The median age was 34 (20 to 50) years. All donors collected bone marrow (BMH) at the anterior tibial elevation and collected at least 24h in the hospital. Hemoglobin concentration (Hb) was measured at least 4 times, ie, before autologous blood collection, before BMH, after BMH, and 10 days after discharge.
