Discusses and quantifies the factors that contribute to the dispersion of solid rocket engine combustion time. After a theoretical treatment of the rate of change of the burning time, the effect of each factor on the overall dispersion is discussed in detail. The effects of the quality of propellants, burning rate, density, characteristic velocity and spray throat area on combustion time were studied. Since the combustion surface area affects the combustion time, the influence of the inner hole ovality, the core offset and the core misalignment on the combustion area is also discussed. For a specific solid rocket engine design, all these factors are combined to estimate the fluctuation in burn time.
