Discusses the design benefits and operational advantages of a wire tool - Downhole Power Unit (DPU). The tool does not use explosives to sit downhole equipment and therefore matches the new completion technology. Its progressive seating action reduces the risk of stagflation by allowing the packers and bridge plugs and seals to evenly expand and cling to the tubing / casing wall. This progressive sitting action also eliminates the high impact stress that can be applied to downhole equipment when using explosive sitting tools. The DPU uses electric geared motors and linear drives to generate up to 60,000 lbf (267kN) of force and is more explosive than equipment that uses explosives. Specially designed circuit also ensures that it can be started at the appropriate depth. The tool can quickly speed in the well site, routine maintenance only includes lubrication and battery replacement, easy maintenance. Operational safety is enhanced by the exclusion of explosives, the use of steel wire reduces the impact stress and reduces the ability to stagnate.
