Objective: To investigate the expression of angiotensin Ⅱ (AngⅡ) and aquaporin 1 (AQP1) in cervical squamous cell carcinoma and its significance. Methods: Immunohistochemical SP method was used to detect the expression of AngⅡ and AQP1 in 46 cases of cervical invasive carcinoma, 11 cases of carcinoma in situ and 20 cases of normal cervical tissue. Results: The positive rates of AngⅡ and AQP1 protein in invasive cervical carcinoma were 73.9% and 71.7% respectively, which were significantly different from those in normal cervical tissue and carcinoma in situ (P <0.05). The expression of AngⅡ and AQP1 was correlated with the FIGO staging and pelvic lymph node metastasis (P <0.05), but not with histological grade and age of patients (P> 0.05). There was a positive correlation between the expression of AngⅡ and AQP1 (P <0.05). Conclusion AngⅡ and AQP1 may be involved in the development of cervical squamous cell carcinoma. AngⅡ and AQP1 may have some synergistic effects in the development of cervical squamous cell carcinoma.
