中国山水画深刻地体现出了山水最为本质的形与色以及禅道思想特征。山水画无需复现自然的面貌,而在于抒发情感,由此而创造的山川形象使观赏者能够玩味现实与艺术之间的巧妙关系,以及笔墨意趣造成的强烈视觉效果。山水画需要“造境”而不停留在“写景”。造境的目的就是为了寄寓思想精神感悟。古代山水画是对禅道文化、地理环境、人文历史、哲学思想、审美意识充分思考的表现,其内涵意境高雅脱俗。因此对自然景物进行空灵玄思的描绘永远是国画的主题。
