1 Introduction In recent years, the use of rare earth metals as an effective additive for non-ferrous metal alloys aroused great interest. It is reported that rare earth metals can refine the structure of aluminum alloy and improve its mechanical properties and machinability. Others use rare earth additives as modifiers for Al-Si alloys.
