Objective To understand and analyze the prevalence of overweight and obesity among adults in Guizhou Province and provide evidence for preventing and controlling overweight and obesity. Methods A multistage cluster random sampling method was used to select the residents of 18 years old and above in 12 counties of 9 cities (prefectures) of Guizhou Province to conduct questionnaire survey, measure height and weight, calculate body mass index (BMI) Survey data to organize analysis. Results A total of 9 260 adults aged 18 and over were surveyed in the province. The overweight rate was 24.6% and the obesity rate was 7.0%. The overweight rates of males and females were 23.8% and 25.3%, respectively. There was no significant difference between the two groups (P> 0.05). The obesity rates of males and females were 5.9% and 8.0% respectively, with significant difference (P <0.01). The overweight rate and obesity rate of urban residents were 28.5% and 9.3%, respectively, which were significantly higher than those in rural areas (23.3% and 6.2%, P <0.01). In all age groups, the 40-year-old group had the highest rates of overweight and obesity, with 28.1% and 9.1% respectively. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the factors related to obesity were age, area, overuse of red meat, sex, consumption of fried foods. Conclusion Nearly one in three people in our province are overweight and obese, and the chronic diseases caused by them will become increasingly serious. Therefore, we should take active measures to prevent and control obesity.
